🏡 Looking for sustainable funding?
The growing push to hold developers accountable and the lack of progress in the decarbonization is creating opportunities for scalable programs...
Good morning!
Lots of trends popping up, but market segmentation persists in the sustainable development space. Read on to hear about a program for entrepreneurs to apply for a share of funding from Great Britain’s Net Zero Technology Centre…

Developers are reemphasizing nature restoration
It’s no secret green and open areas are key to building happy, healthy communities, but now developers are taking it a step further by prioritizing restoration of natural plants and environments, creating more resilient, lower maintenance projects.
Encouraging greener tenants “essential to achieving climate goals”
Many tenants remain in the dark about their true consumption, simply paying the bill forwarded by their landlord or otherwise. By mandating dashboards and displays of tenant utility usage, companies argue tenants will become more conscientious of the sustainability of their choices.
“There are too many decision-makers who want to play it safe and stick with conventional systems, because they are afraid that trying something different will bring problems.”
New report shows developers and owners aren’t properly measuring decarbonization metrics
So, how do you track your decarbonization efforts?
If you’re a developer or even a building owner, you might be familiar with BIM (building information modeling). Now, some companies are taking this a step further, using Digital Twins. This new development in BIM uses transport, social, economic, and resource usage factors to generate real time operational data delivering tools for stakeholders to measure their emission reductions.
Deals & Developments
South Tenyside, England is getting a new £2.8 million net-zero building
Small on its face, the building is part of a larger project in South Tenyside that is incorporating green spaces, solar, and geothermal, all in a mission to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030, 20 years ahead of England’s goal.
Technology
AltaRock Energy is beta testing a new form of geothermal generation
The new technology involves highly pressurized water pumped into hot geothermal masses through porous rock (think fracking, but with clean water to produce steam). The trails run thus fas have produced upwards of 10x the energy generated in current geothermal operations.
Legislation
Michigan bill to enforce carbon neutrality goal by 2050
Michigan is yet another state outlining a complete transition to renewables mandating 50% renewable energy usage by 2030 and a full departure from coal usage by 2035.
Power plants contribute more than 71% of the state’s industrial emissions, if Michigan converted to renewables by 100% by 2030, the state would save over 50 million metric tons of CO2e, which would equate to half of the state’s overall emissions (as of 2018).
Fact for Thought
Are you or your sustainable startup looking for funding? The Net Zero Technology Centre just invited firms around the world to apply for a cut of £10 million.
Application is open to those working in:
1. Carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS)
2. Hydrogen and clean fuels
3. Renewables and energy storage
4. Zero emissions power
5. Venting and flaring
6. Integrity management
7. Late life and decommissioning
Apply by March 16th if you’re interested!
